This poster titled, Strike On!, was released to encourage people to continue using their voice in protest of the violence breaking out due to the Vietnam War and also the violence taking place back in the United States in the wake of the May 4, 1970 Kent State Massacre. The poster showcases a protester with their fist proudly in the air screaming out in protest. The poster was created by Students of the Ecoledes Beaux Arts, college students dedicated to encouraging protests of anti- violence.
The reading on the events of Kent State, titled “Kent State/May 4 and Postwar Memory” by John Fitzgerald O’Hara, focuses on the importance of memorializing the location of the event reading, “By creating, permitting, or denying - and occasionally destroying - artworks and artifacts of May 4, Kent State University has established on campus a fractured yet unified site of memory that embodies a history of social division and reunification, political conflict and reconciliation, national trauma and recovery, after both the event and the war.” This poster similarly memorializes the events that took place, by holding so much emotion and struggle in just one image. In addition, the poster points out a conflict of social devision and reunification, in the sense that the protester in the image is calling out in protest against the government seemingly disregarding the lives and/or feelings of the people, while the people stand unified in thought and body.
